OxySense

OxySense - Non-Invasive Oxygen Measurement Systems

OxySense is a leading manufacturer of proprietary passive oxygen monitoring systems for packaging in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and electronics industries. Our key products include the OxySense™ 200T non-invasive R&D and QC testing system, and the OxySense™ 4000B self contained, portable oxygen analyzer. We also offer oxygen process monitors and real time monitoring for tracking packages along the production line.

NON-INVASIVE OXYGEN MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS

OxySense is the world's first truly non-invasive oxygen measurement system for sealed packages. The system is unique not only for its ability to measure oxygen non-invasively, but also for its ability to measure oxygen in headspace and dissolved liquids.

The optical system can measure oxygen levels in transparent, translucent and semi-transparent packages, as long as the material can transmit light in the 470nm and 610nm range. The non-invasive sensor was developed by TNO in the Netherlands and is manufactured and marketed in the US by OxySense.

Key advantages of OxySense include:

  • Non-destructive measuring technique
  • Thousands of measurements per package
  • Fast measurements (<5 seconds)
  • Reproducibility is better than 1% (0.2% O2)
  • Sterilization tested up to 150°C (1sp/hr), can withstand pasteurization
  • Can be used in oil, water and air
  • Independent of pH (2 to 12) and salt concentration
  • No interference from other gases
  • Automatic data logging
  • Measures in liquids and gases
  • Integrated temperature compensation
  • Operator-friendly software interface
  • Can be used in oil, water and air
  • Independent of pH and salt
  • Does not consume oxygen

OXYDOT™ OXYGEN SENSING

To sense oxygen within a package, an OxyDot™ is placed inside a bottle or package prior to filling. The dot is illuminated with a pulsed blue light from an LED. The blue light is absorbed by the dot and red light is emitted. The red light is detected by a photo-detector and the fluorescence lifetime is measured. Different lifetimes indicate different levels of oxygen within the package.

OXYGEN MEASUREMENT FOR R&D AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

OxySense 4000B and 210T are easy, accurate and low-cost methods for conducting leak testing and shelf-life studies on Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), oxygen scavenging, closure seals and PET bottles. OxySense models are able to support multiple sensor heads and harsh environments such as manufacturing floors.

OxySense systems use a non-invasive optical methodology to determine oxygen concentration by measuring fluorescent energy released from an illuminated oxygen-sensitive sensor.

The OxySense 4000B includes:

  • O2xySense 4000B documentation CD
  • 64 MB USB Memory Stick
  • Infrared temperature sensor
  • Bifurcated bundle and reader-pen assembly
  • OxyDot application kit, including vacuum-pen/applicator and vacuum pen extension
  • Built-in 6.5in TFT display, mouse and keyboard

Packaging applications for OxySense include oxygen measurement for blister packs, pouches and bottles, and permeation / oxygen ingress testing for closures and films.

OXYSENSE 4500E EXPANSION MODULE

The OxySense 4500E expansion module provides the following extra features:

  • Enclosure and 4550EB sensor head with reader / pen
  • Attaches to OxySense 4000B
  • Incorporates expansion slots for 4550EB sensor heads
