Marden Edwards - Over Wrapping, Stretch Banding and Shrink Wrapping Machines

Marden Edwards is one of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of over wrapping and shrink wrapping packaging machines. Established for over forty years, Marden Edwards' range of packaging machines has been sold around the world, with more than 10,000 installations having taken place.

With manufacturing facilities in both the UK and Germany, and a worldwide network of over fifty agents and distributors, Marden Edwards is able to offer ideal support for its ranges of wrapping equipment. Every packaging machine ever produced is still supported for both spare parts and new product size tooling.

OVER WRAPPING MACHINES

Over wrapping machines produce a high quality, folded and sealed fully enclosed wrap around a product or group of products. They are energy efficient, as little heat is required to seal the film, and are well placed to use the latest generation of starch based bio-degradable films.

With over 8,500 machines produced and distributed to over 150 countries, over wrapping is central to the Marden Edwards product range. A complete capability portfolio of systems is provided, encompassing individual pack wrapping and collating and wrapping.

Speeds of up to 300 individual wraps per minute can be handled, and up to 1000 packs per minute for collating systems. Medium speed, low-cost over wrapping machines are also available, with speeds starting at around 40 packs per minute.

All Marden Edwards' over wrapping machines have size-change versatility built in, and are economic and straightforward to maintain. Depending on model, size changes can be carried out in less than ten minutes. Whether the over wrap is used to save costs or to enhance the product's presentation, all Marden Edwards' over wrapping machines produce the same high quality of wrap.

STRETCH BANDING MACHINES

Stretch banding is an alternative to over wrapping when products are being collated. A stretch bander uses two reels of film to form a web through which the collated product is pushed. The film, usually PE, is stretched tightly around the pack and the seal is made. The band of film can either be narrow and used to simply hold the collation together, or be wider than the pack and shrunk to enclose it fully.

Marden Edwards supplies stretch banders in a number of sealing jaw widths up to 1,000mm. This means that large products can be collated and wrapped before being supplied directly into the distribution system without the need for extra cardboard based packaging.

The machine is extremely rugged, and suitable for all production environments. Speeds of up to 20 collations per minute can be achieved, and product size changes carried out in less than five minutes.

SHRINK WRAPPING MACHINES

Two types of shrink wrapping machines are produced and supplied by Marden Edwards – the automatic L-sealer for presentation style packs, and the twin film reel sleeve wrapper for distribution packs.

Both types of machine are economically priced, but still designed for automatic, three shift operation. The L-sealer range, which uses centre folded polyolefin film, is available for speeds from 20 to 120 packs per minute. L-sealing is especially suitable for irregularly-shaped products, or where very frequent size changing is required.

The sleeve wrappers form a sheet of film from two reels, but, unlike the stretch-bander, the film is not pulled tight around the pack. Instead, the loose 'tube of film' is passed through a shrink tunnel which shrinks it tightly around the product. Speeds of up to 35 packs per minute can be achieved.

RE-ORIENTING AND CONVEYING PRODUCT HANDLING SYSTEMS

Just as important as the wrapping of the product is the handling system that correctly orientates and feeds the product into the wrapping machine. Marden Edwards has developed many different ways of re-orienting and collating products before they are fed into the wrapper.

Marden Edwards' expertise extends to supplying pack re-orienting and conveyor systems to link machines together, together with their necessary controls, thus providing a turnkey wrapping equipment and product handling solution.

OVER WRAPPING AND SHRINK WRAPPING MARKETS

Film wrapping is a flexible, trusted form of packaging which improves the presentation of the product and increases its shelf life. Whether over wrapping or shrink wrapping is chosen, the cost of wrapping using Marden Edwards wrapping equipment is often less than equivalent methods.

High product appeal, cost savings and machine versatility means that over wrapping and shrink wrapping have a broad appeal across many markets, including tobacco packaging; confectionery wrapping; perfume box wrapping; food product collating and wrapping; DVD, CD and software packaging; paper and board wrapping; pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging; and tea and coffee packaging.
