Tecta barrier board offers an ecologically sound alternative for food packaging, Tecta is fully recyclable and compostable. Tecta dispersion-coated barrier board is designed to meet the high packaging standards of the food industry. Similarly good at consumer packaging with everything that demands barrier properties against water, water vapour and grease; from frozen food, ice cream, and microwave meals to confectionery and bakery packaging.

ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY FOOD PACKAGING

Tecta is an environmentally friendly packaging solution. As Tecta board can be recycled, composted or incinerated for energy recovery, it offers a true, environmentally friendly alternative to plastics and plastic laminated cartonboard.

It is also an ideal material for avoiding the growing problem posed by over-packaging. Thanks to the barrier properties built to board itself, Tecta eliminates the need for inner or outer pouches. As a mono material it requires no separation of coatings or layers manufactured from other materials.

VERSATILE BARRIER PACKAGING MATERIAL

Three different Tecta grades give you an opportunity to select a material that suits your end-use best. Whether you require a packaging material for frozen food, ice cream, microwave meals, confectionery, chocolate or moisture sensitive dry food, Tecta covers all specifications and more.

WATERPROOF FOOD PACKAGING

All Tecta grades are grease and water-resistant, the differences between Tecta-products lie in their heat and water vapour resistance. TectaBase and TectaVapor are microwaveable; TectaVapor provides also an excellent water vapour barrier. TectaOven can be used in conventional oven as well as in microwave oven.

TAMPER-PROOF FOOD PACKAGING

The dispersion coating is heat-sealable, which gives you the ability to employ various tamper proofing tactics, starting from heat sealed openings and tear strips. You can also print on Tecta coating. Topside of Tecta barrier board is pigment coated to give you excellent printing surface for branding and product information.

TECTABASE MICROWAVEABLE PACKGING

TectaBase is used for microwaveable packaging, fast food and salad trays as well as sandwich and bakery packaging. It gives barrier properties against grease and water and has temperature resistance up to 150°C.

Salad trays and sandwich packaging are perfect examples, where TectaBase has replaced plastic packaging and helped food manufacturers and retailers to move towards more sustainable packaging. Microwaveable packaging is now possible with only one material instead of plastic tray with film lid and paperboard sleeve as Tecta paperboards top side can be printed and reverse is suitable for direct food contact.

TECTA VAPOR: MOISTURE BARRIER PACKAGING

TectaVapor gives good moisture barrier and is therefore ideal material for ice-cream and frozen food to protect it from drying. TectaVapor is also used to protect moisture-sensitive products such as sweets and chewing gum; it is possible to get rid of plastic wrapping over the package. TectaVapor can also be used for fresh food when a stronger moisture barrier is needed.

TECTAOVEN: OVEN-PROOF PACKAGING

TectaOven has temperature resistance up to 220°C and can be used for many kinds of ovenable food packaging. It is also suitable for pressware trays due to its good formability. Using TectaOven in ready made meals or airplane catering minimizes the need for different packaging materials, as the top side can be printed and the reverse side gives barrier properties needed for food contact. This also minimises the rubbish, as used packaging can be composted.

BIODEGRADABLE FOOD PACKAGING

Tecta is an environmentally friendly material. Disposal of Tecta-material can be done by recycling (repulping), composting or incineration. Tecta is 100% recyclable. Trimwaste of Tecta can be repulped and used again in the paperboard manufacturing. Tecta is defined as mono material, it can be recycled as such no separation of e.g. plastics is needed. In practice this means that for example DSD-taxes are notably lower than the DSD-taxes of other barrier applications.
